As a freelance props buyer for both TV and theatre in South Wales, I use the services of Celtic Prop Hire on a regular basis. However it is in my role as a Part-time Lecturer at The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama that I find Celtic invaluable, not only as a resource to the numerous productions produced there annually but also as a teaching aid.
Every year I am asked by The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama to lead their first year stage management degree students, in a Props Project. This is a five week project in learning the art of propping, for which Celtic play a very important role. Sian Bundy and her team allow me to bring the students to the prop house and very kindly take the time to introduce the students as to how the place works. The students throughout the project (and their degree) then contact and converse with the team at Celtic as to their individual production requirements. It is very important to give the students this experience of working with a professional outlet such as Celtic, as they increase their communication skills and learn to manage budgets appropriately. The team are very sympathetic to the students and their feedback on the students approach is always welcomed.
